Taxi driver is the main profession of self-employed people in Russia.
A number of registered self-employed people in Russia had reached 1 million. Since January 2019 self-employed have registered an income of more than ₽130 billion and paid taxes of ₽3.5 billion, the press service of the Federal Taxation Service of the Russian Federation told RIA Novosti.
A special tax regime for the self-employed, or a tax on professional income, allows the citizens to install a My Tax mobile application and legalize their business activities with minimal costs. Besides, those who wants to become self-employed, do not have to visit the tax authorities in person and submit any reports. When working with individuals the tax rate is 4%, with legal entities it is 6%.
From January 1, 2019 the experiment on tax regime for self-employed was launched in Moscow, Moscow and Kaluga regions and Tatarstan. From the beginning of 2020, it was extended to 19 more regions, and from July 1, all Russian regions may launch it on their territory.
The average age of self-employed people is 30-40 years, while 6.5 thousand self-employed people are under 18. Cabs, delivery of goods, apartment rent, tutoring, repair, marketing and IT services are among the main activities. Moscow, Moscow region and St. Petersburg are in the top based on the income from the self-employed.
