The evolution of Moscow public transport cards
Sergey Sobyanin wrote a post on the evolution of metropolitan public transport tickets. He shared it on his personal page in VKontakte social network.
“The evolution of Moscow transport tickets. Their story began in 1935 and lasted until 2013, when we came up with the Troika card. It’s not just a card, but the smartest ticketing system in the world. Last year the Troika received an award at the Transport Ticketing Global, largest specialized international award”, - he wrote.
He has also noted that the main advantage of Troika is the ability to contain any type of ticket, so its owner may choose any type of city transport and pay for the trip with an electronic wallet.
“This year we will launch Troika app for the smartphones. Thus a passenger won’t have to carry a card at all”, - the mayor said.
In addition, a Face Pay system is being tested today. Moreover, MaaS platform is being worked out. It will combine not only all public types of transport, but also taxis, carsharing, bicycles and scooters rent at competitive prices.
“The only disadvantage of smart cards is that the era of lucky paper tickets is gone. This makes me feel nostalgic”, - he finalized.
